Environmental Credentials

Glas Weld specialise in repairing screens not replacing them. Unlike many other companies that say they will repair but actually earn more money from replacement we repair approx double the number of screens as a percentage than our competitors.

Why do we only repair?

Is Glass Green

It takes approximately 1 million years for a windscreen to break down in a landfill.
Repairing one windscreen (Not Replacing) saves enough energy to light a 100-watt light bulb for 34 hours or operate a television

Windscreens

•  12 Million Replacements (US)

•  Average Weight - 25 Lbs

•  Estimated Weight - 300 Million Pounds

•  144 Million Square Feet of waste per year

Energy Consumption

A considerable amount of energy is required to transform raw materials into glass. It takes 15.2 million BTU's of energy to produce 1 ton of glass. That is equal to 7,600 BTU's for one pound of glass! In addition, the manufacturing of one ton of glass can generate as much as 385 pounds of mining waste and 28 pounds of air pollutants. Like other materials, glass manufacturing and usage has negative impacts on the environment.

Climate Change & Waste

Everyone knows that reducing waste is good for the environment. What most people don''t know is that solid waste reduction and recycling help address global climate change.

How? - By decreasing the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases that are linked to everyday rubbish. The manufacture, distribution, and use of products as well as management of the resulting waste– all result in greenhouse gas emissions. Waste prevention and recycling reduce greenhouse gases associated with these activities by reducing methane emissions, saving energy, and increasing forest carbon sequestration.

Air Pollutants

•  Estimated Weight 300 Million Pounds(US)

•  Average Weight 25 Lbs.

•  4 Pounds Mining Waste Per Pound Of Glass Waste Per Year

•  12 Billions Pounds of Mining Waste Per Year

Energy Consumption

•  Estimated Weight 300 Million Pounds(US)

•  Average Weight 25 Lbs.

•  7600 BTU''s Per Pound

•  2,280,000,000,000 BTU''s Per Year
