Graffiti Removal

Graffiti is usually caused by forcing a hard metal object such as a carbide probe, screwdriver, spark plug or diamond cutter over the surface of the glass. The result is a deep, sharp edged, damage which we refer to as a 'hard scratch'.

Glas Weld - Chicago Glass have developed a two stage process for the removal of Graffiti on glass:

Stage one uses an abrasive flat disc to take away the sharp (hard) edges of the scratch and turn them into 'soft' scratches that can be treated by the G Force polishing system - which causes the glass  to flow into the void. (see Our System for more detail).

The roughing process creates a haze on the glass, but because the abrasive action is flat on the surface, there is a minimal stock removal of glass and thus minimal distortion.

Once the area is hazed, it is polished by the G Force over a larger  area than originally damaged and, as a consequence, the flow of glass 'repairs' both the original scratched area and the area that has been hazed.

Whilst there is minimal distortion, this would not be noticeable when viewed at normal angles by shoppers (shopfronts) or passengers (trains and buses).
